The much-anticipated second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel arrives on Prime Video this week, and audience theories has been intense.
Season 1 introduces a diverse group of characters residing in Hell and Heaven, sets them at odds accompanied by songs about their clashes, and builds heated competitions and angsty, affectionate connections that fuel audience devotion.
The fandom's stated hopes for season 2 vary widely, but certain threads recur frequently: Could Angel Dust escape his tormentor? Might we learn more about the mysterious "deal" affecting the enigmatic Alastor? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Naturally, I don't produce the show with fan service specifically in mind," the showrunner commented earlier this year. "However I believe that me being a devotee of the series means there's a lot of it just inherently. I also want to see these things, and I hope some of these things to occur, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She reveals her long-term vision is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have already been green-lit by Prime Video and A24, which produce the series.
That might mean fans have to wait years for some of the major resolutions — but they could be shocked at how fast season 2 progresses, and how many of what they're waiting for happens this season.
"I believe people are going to be highly satisfied," the creator notes. "We get some firsts. I think we receive some really amazing disclosures, some really cool backstories, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear much more singing from the previously silent cast members."
She's certainly aware of the guesses and hopes about the upcoming season — especially in the format of audience prediction charts.
"I've seen a few fans make a prediction grid about the new season," she says. "Naturally I can't post it, but I've already completed a few items, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season premieres on the streaming service on Oct. 29.
